PRP Current Initiatives
Community Planning Process
This initiative will employ a stakeholder-based approach to community development: a belief that the residents of a community best know its needs and should have input in identifying the successes and failures. This process will be comprised of a series of community meetings around specific topics including education, housing, safety, youth and healthcare, in addition to smaller focus groups with selected residents. The purpose of these meetings is to gather as much substantive feedback from residents about what they would like the Rogers Park community to become in the coming years. Once this community garnered data is collected, the information will be used to set priorities for PRP as well as to outline projects that can be worked on as a community. CSI (Community Solutions Inc.) has been hired as the consultant group that will facilitate the Rogers Park planning process for the next 18 months. They are a community development consulting firm that will bring a results-based accountability process combined with data driven community indicators and cultural competency to the process. The planning process is underway. Click here for more info: Press Release
There are currently 3 standing committees within Partners for Rogers Park-Housing, Planning and Membership.
Housing Committee
The Housing Committee of Partners for Rogers Park is dedicated to creating and preserving, safe, and, decent affordable housing opportunities in Rogers Park. The Housing Committee’s current priorities include improving coordination of rental housing services, education of tenants and property owners, and advocacy.
- Increasing tenant representation: in leadership positions, including within community bodies like the 49th ward zoning + land use advisory committee, the Housing Committee, and a yet-to-be created Rogers Park tenant advisory committee.
- Reducing tenant displacement: developing a ward-based relocation strategy, passing a condominium conversion ordinance that protects tenants, and working on reforms to the building permit application process.
- Improving coordination of services: including through better coordination of tenant services with aldermanic offices office and creation of a comprehensive apartment listing.
- Providing landlord/tenant education: including through workshops for tenants and landlords and direct outreach.
Planning Committee
The Planning Committee’s primary focus is directing and supporting a community-wide planning process that will use data, surveys, interviews, focus groups and community meetings to identify areas of community life that need to be addressed. The results of the study will be used to guide the work of Partners for Rogers Park. The planning process will also provide opportunities for people to become involved in PRP or other areas of community life by connecting them to existing organizations, new or ongoing efforts or resources to make a difference in the neighborhood.
Membership Committee
The membership committee recruits, sustains, and manages the membership for the coalition. We focus on identifying organizations and individuals who potentially may become members in addition to creating an action plan to see those potential members through to full membership. The committee also works to keep members informed about annual dues as well as providing coordination for all quarterly and annual coalition meetings.
